"Cain Rising...strong, engaging and original” BBC Radio Cambridgeshire
Following on from their critically acclaimed debut album CAIN RISING are proud to release this, the 3rd release from their forthcoming 5 track EP.
Social Man is a tensely raw and intimate country song. Stripped back to piano and blues harp supporting Jimmy’s emotive vocal.
The band was formed in 2014 by Southside Jimmy Price with long time collaborators and friends Jez and Jo Parry. The band, although all musicians from the UK, deliver up a sound that anyone could be forgiven in thinking springs from America's heartlands with its mix of country, folk and rock.
Frontman and songwriter Southside Jimmy cites iconic American artists such as Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan as sonic touchstones when describing his influences and the band's sound. Where the debut album displayed the breadth of these influences, from East Coast rock to the raw folk, Glasgow City Spires and its predecessor Rear View Mirror shows a band whose confidence is growing and who are not afraid to let their music grow with it.
Soon to come from Cain Rising is a 5 track EP to be released in July which contains Social Man, as well as the two previous releases Glasgow City Spires, Rear View Mirror, also includes Walk My Way - Rock meets Swing - with horns from Rebecca Gibson Swift and Pablo Mendelssohn; Soldier - takes the pace down a notch with evocative guitar from Ian.
Since we last heard from Cain Rising there have been some personnel changes. The core of Jo, Jez and Jimmy remains. Incoming guitarist Ian Hopper - edgy and creative; Matt Crawford on Hammond and Piano gives the band a touch of soul and Mick Ivory’s drumming give it the beating heart.
As with Rear View Mirror and Glasgow City Spires, the drawing behind the cover art for Social Man is by Julian O’Dell. Julian’s artwork has long been a favourite of the band’s. His work can be found on his website
artattackoncancer.org . All proceeds from his sales go to the Action Against Cancer charity.
Southside Jimmy was brought up in the southside of Glasgow and moved to London in the 80s. He has collaborated with Joel Bogen (Toyah) and has worked with his friend Mike Oldfield, singing lead vocals on Mike’s MAGIC TOUCH album and toured Europe promoting the album with Mike and Bonnie Tyler, who was also featured.
